This is a bag pattern that I made up with only two stitches. It uses worsted weight yarn, and a J size crochet hook. It should use about 5 oz of yarn depending on size. If you don’t know how to do the stitches, here is a good link for the chain stitch, and one for single crochet.

SC= Single Crochet
Ch= Chain Stitch

Bag body:

Ch 35.
Row 1: In 2nd ch from hook, SC. Continue SC across. Turn.
Row 2: Ch 1. SC in each SC across. Turn.
Continue row 2 until bag is twice as tall as you want it.

Shoulder strap:

After the final turn, continue along the body with 1 ch and 5 SC stitches or so (depending on how wide you want the strap) and turn. Keep going until it is long enough to go over your shoulder, and is at the right height for you. Put the end of the strap in line with the stitches at the other end and attach using SC just like you would before except that you put it through both layers instead of one.

Finishing:

Put the sides of the bag together in half. Attach them together along the sides by putting the yarn through the very bottom of the bag and tying half of a square knot. Do the same attaching method listed above with the shoulder strap, but the first time you do it, it will only have 1 loop instead of 2 which is normal. This time though, there are not stitches to follow, so just put the hook where it will go through in fairly equal sized spaces. Weave in loose ends. Now you have a bag!
